EditingEDITING Because of my writing schedule, the only editorial work I'm doing these days is on a very, very selective basis. My editing of fiction or non-fiction manuscripts--light or heavy, depending on what shape it's in--has two levels: 1) developmental/ 2) copy editing (pruning of wordiness; sentence structure, clarity, word choice, grammar, spelling, etc.) I assume that the editing I will be doing will be copy editing, and if your manuscript is in good shape, it will be. However, if I see early that your work needs to be restructured, I'll let you know as soon as possible. DELIVERY OF MANUSCRIPT When editing a manuscript, I like to work with hard copy so I can write in the margins and flip back and forth easily. For that reason I prefer that you send me a manuscript printout (single sided; double-spaced; wide enough margins to write in; print no smaller than 12). If for some reason, you can't send a printout and can only send your manuscript electronically, I will print it out for a fee. I'll return the edited manuscript to you no later than 30 days from the time I receive it. EDITING FEE 2.5 cents a word (that is, $25 per 1000 words) I need all or at least half the fee to be submitted with the manuscript with the remainder due after the manuscript has been edited and returned. SAMPLE PAGES Upon request I'm willing to edit sample pages for writers not familiar with my work, who might be leery about turning their creative pride and joy over to a total unknown. That way you will get to see for yourself how I work. The fee for the sample edit is $50, which you need to send with the sample pages numbering no more than 25 pages (along with a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of the edited material).
